Materials Engineer – RT0030
My client, a leading energy giant in the Middle East are looking for a Materials Engineer to join them.

As a Materials Engineer, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the technical integrity of plant equipment, materials and spare parts throughout the procurement and maintenance lifecycle.
Key responsibilities include:
Carrying out technical evaluations of vendor bids for plant equipment, spares and material supply contracts
Reviewing supplier drawings, documentation and technical submissions to ensure compliance with engineering specifications
Assessing alternative technical proposals for integrity, engineering and operational suitability
Approving post-order manufacturing drawings and documentation
Leading the re-engineering of obsolete equipment and materials by recommending improved technologies and modern engineering solutions
Identifying opportunities to improve specifications, engineering standards and equipment reliability
Working closely with procurement, maintenance, engineering teams, vendors and manufacturers to resolve technical issues
Reviewing and approving material deviations, certification changes and specification waiver requests
Managing technical evaluation activities to ensure delivery against project schedules
Providing technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to junior engineers
We’re looking for someone with:
Degree qualification in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Minimum 8 years’ experience within supply chain, maintenance or engineering environments, ideally in the Oil & Gas industry
At least 5 years in a supervisory or technical leadership role
Strong experience in engineering design, equipment specification and technical evaluation
Extensive knowledge of international engineering standards including API, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, ISA, IEEE, IEC, NEMA, NFPA, ATEX, BASEEFA, TEMA, BS and associated industry codes
Experience working with company engineering specifications, statutory regulations and industry standards
Previous exposure to reviewing and approving procurement and construction drawings including equipment, piping, P&IDs and plot plans
Experience developing material requisitions, equipment descriptions and supporting materials cataloguing, standardisation and variety reduction initiatives
Strong understanding of maintenance and procurement processes for industrial plant equipment
Knowledge of ERP systems together with strong Microsoft Office skills
Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management abilities
A proactive mindset with the ability to solve technical problems, work independently and deliver to demanding schedule
